My name is Aleks, I’m 33 years old and from Slovenia. I began my maritime career in 2012 on commercial vessels and transitioned into the yachting industry in 2018. Over the years, I have gained broad experience across various vessel types, including Bulk Carriers (as Deck Cadet), RoRo-Pax (as OS, AB, 3rd and 2nd Officer), and General Cargo ships (as 2nd Officer). My yachting journey began at the entry level as a Deckhand, and through hard work and dedication, I progressed to Lead Deckhand, Relief Bosun, and eventually to 3rd, 2nd, and Chief Officer roles. Currently, I am employed as Chief Officer on MY Al Mirqab, a private vessel without a Safety Manning Certificate. However, I’m also in the final stages of completing my Chief Mate Unlimited certification, with two exams and a final thesis remaining, planned for completion in November/December this year. I am now seeking a new opportunity that challenges me—something out of the ordinary. I believe my diverse background and strong work ethic make me a valuable candidate. I’m a proactive team player who leads by example and is equally comfortable taking ownership of individual projects when needed. In my current role, I lead a team of two bridge officers and 15 deck crew, including the Bosun. During the winter season, when the Captain is off the vessel, I assume responsibility for the ship while docked.
