I am a British and Spanish national who has lived in Africa all my life. I grew up scuba diving and deep-sea fishing along the Kenyan and Tanzanian coastline, loving these aquatic sports so much and at such a young age that I earned the nickname Samaki, meaning fish in Swahili. I caught my first Marlin at the age of 14, and most recently obtained my PADI Advanced scuba diving certification in 2022. I plan to do my Masters diving certification and rescue divers certification within the next 5 months or so. I completed a deckhand course through YOA Super Yacht Training, where I practiced skills such as teak maintenance, fairing, paint repair, sanding and varnishing, splicing, fairing, mooring, chammying, polishing stainless steel, cleaning fiber-glass, and anchoring. I am pursuing a career as a deckhand on yachts in the hopes that I can continue doing the activities I love, while surrounded by like-minded people who share a passion for their work. I am extremely energetic, sociable, and hardworking, and feel that deckhand work aligns with the kind of life I want to curate. I hope to contribute to maintaining a clean, positive, and functioning space on the yacht while also broadening my knowledge of diving, fishing, cooking, and different cultures around the world. Working on ocean vessels also runs in my blood, as my mother worked as a deckhand and chef on a brigantine ship for 2 years, and my great great great grandfather was even a buccaneer. I hope that my skills, background, and overall personality can add meaningful value to the ship’s crew, as well as to the experience of the passengers.
